About M&B

A dairy family, a Florida story

Dale McClellan has been a dairyman all his life. Building on the family's Tampa-based business, he set out to create a modern, environmentally sound dairy farm, and after years of research did exactly that in Lecanto, a small community outside Homosassa Springs.

The farm is completely self-sufficient. Barns are flushed with reuse water three times a day, hay fields are irrigated with the flushed waste, and the dairy runs on a fraction of its allotted water. Our mascot Buffy the Cow still lives there.

Milk from the Lecanto herd, along with fresh milk from Florida dairies, goes to our Tampa plant, a USDA certified facility where we process and package fresh juice and milk products for the schools, stores and foodservice customers on our routes.

The loop

Nothing leaves the farm that the farm can use again.

  1. 1

    Cows

The herd is milked, and the barns are flushed clean three times a day with reuse water.

  2. 2

    Natural pool

The flush water and waste settle in the lagoon beside the barns.

  3. 3

    Fields

Pumps spray it across the center-pivot hay fields as irrigation and fertilizer.

  4. 4

    Hay

The fields grow the hay that feeds the herd, and the loop starts again.

The dairy runs on a fraction of its allotted water. Every visitor, and Buffy, can see the whole loop from the barn door.
